Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 271 -- FINANCIAL INTEREST STATEMENTS

SPONSOR: Scott (Pearce)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local
Government by a vote of 12 to 0.

Currently, certain elected and appointed officials and employees
and candidates of those offices in political subdivisions with
operating budgets over $1 million are required to file financial
interest statements. This bill raises the threshold of the
operating budget to $2 million.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and
FY 2010.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that when the law was passed, it was
never intended to apply to smaller political subdivisions, but
inflation has caused many of them to come under the requirement
so the threshold needs to be increased.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Scott; and Missouri
Municipal League.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
